Seek peace

The Holy Bible says, “Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts since as members of one body you were called to peace. And be thankful.” Colossians 3:15

No one can be at peace if certain personal and social conditions are not fulfilled. For instance, when your mind is disturbed by the desire for privileges, promotion, profits, or honor, you can’t be at peace. Those conditions are personal. You can mentally work through them and make inner peace.

However, certain situations are external, and their solutions don’t depend on you. Any changes should involve the community or country where you live. How to ask someone who lives in a risky country to be tranquil, poised, and at peace? You can’t be calm in a place where your life is at the mercy of hazards? How to ask people living in a country where they can’t go about their daily business without thinking of kidnappers? The first thing that crosses their minds is that if they could kidnap religious persons, why not us. When you know that the place you live in is like a dormant volcano, unhappiness torments you. Peace and sadness don’t go alongside.

According to Malcolm X, “You can’t separate peace from freedom because no one can be at peace unless he has his freedom.”

It’s easy to treat personal needs mentally and get peace. However, freedom is one condition to make peace if the problems are external. Seek first your freedom, and then you will automatically find peace.
